Hi guys,

I am confused about certified translations of documents requiered for Adjustment of Status. One of the requierements is any document that is written in a foreing language has to be translated into English and Certified by a translator. My question is the TRANSLATOR need to be CERTIFIED as a TRANSLATOR member of any association or language services, OR any person competent in English and the another language can certified any document. In this case I am talking about my Birth Certificate and I don't understand the difference. In my country a CERTIFIED DOCUMENT is notarized and have some stamps on it, the same thing a lawyer told me today, that anyone or friend or whatever can translate the document but have to be accurate and need to be certified in the BANK (notarized). Other people told me that just the translation with THE CERTIFICATION at the end with the signature is enough, and other people told me that the document has to be translated by a special agency for translation services $$$$ and certified.....

Based in your experiences applying for GC I would like to know your opinions....

TRANSLATOR need to be member of any association or language services. Any foreign document could be translated in organizations such as a Ambassy, Bank , post office, ore sworn translator.
The best way is to go in Ambassy of your olld country and ask them , it wil be done in few minuts and it will be certified and it will cost nothing .
You can do it by FAX in case if you live far from Ambassy.
Your friend can't just translate your documents, and to sign it .


There is no better way.
 
Anyone can translate the document if he or she understands the two languages involved.

Any foreign documents that are notarized need to be "Apostilled" in order to be used in the United States. What it means is that you get a official translator translate your document & then a certificate stating that the translator is valid is affixed to top. It will be valid in United States then only to be used for legal purposes.

Search for apsotille & your country you are from. Lots of courts etc do that.

Thanks for your answer want but, can you tell me how did you do when you apply for your I-485??? did you pay a translator to certified your birth certificate or somebody did? can you please be more specific based in your own experience? because my teacher that is bilingual teacher he can make the translation and certified exactly how is requiered a certified document but he is NOT a certified translator....The translation need to have a stamp on it? or something that shows the legitimately? Thanks a lot for you help

Your teacher can do it. The only thing that she has to do is state in the bottom of the document the following:

I (her name) certify the I am competent in both languages, English and Spanish. Date and sign.

No stamps, no apostillage, no notaries, no money.

correct. :) :)

If the document is a complicated one, it is suggested (but by no means required) that you use a professional translator.

Most attorneys use their legal assistants to perform this task.

I did for a marriage certificate that was issued by German govt. The only way they wanted to recognize was to be notarized and apostilled(not translated).

You can do what thankful and others say. Find a translator and they will issue you certificate of authenticy. Also your home embassy can issue you a birth certificate.Its quite alright to get a birth certificate even if you are an asylee...
 
Just about 3 weeks ago i was in need of certified translation of my birth certificate. I've use this online service and it was fine with USCIS - http://www.online-languagetranslators.com/index.htm .

I called them to get a price and timeline for this translation, after that i e-mail a scanned copy of the document, in a couple of days they e-mailed me a translation for my feedback. After i confirmed that everything is correct they print it out, verify that this is a certified translation and mail it to you. Express overnight shipping is additional $20. As for me, i'm very satisfied with the whole process and result.
