Has the marriage certificate been issued in the US (you got married here)?
If so, did you bring the original to the interview?

If not, maybe they want to see the original (or a certified copy in lieu of it) foreign certificate.

That's the only thing I could think of.

Its simple! Had you brought in the original certified Marriage liscense you probably would have gotten approval stamp on the spot, because as the USCIS Officer told you you need to send the certified copy of marriage liscense in then they will mail your descision. I am sorry to be blunt here, But of all the things you should have brought to an AOS for relative through MARRIAGE interview, If you were prepared properly you would have the approval answer already
& you wouldn't be asking this question "is it a good sign or not? because she didnt tell us that we are approved or wutnot"

That being said it does sound as though asside from not having Marriage Cert. you will most likely be approved, the only downfall is there is a slight longer delay. They can't approve without original proof of marriage, You now need to contact your local County clerk/ registrars office and request Certified copy of your marriage liscense!
Good Luck

Why would anyone think of bringing a marriage licence to the interview? What are they mind readers or something? Sheesh!

wait until somebody calls you names for saying this .... tsk tsk :D

It's probably USCIS' fault again. duh !

I can't believe how many people go to their interviews, probably one of the most important appointments in their entire life, this unprepaired.

The quote in your signature sums it up.

"You aren't only responsible for what you're doing
but also for what you're not doing" Lao Tzu

I agree. When going for an interview do the search online, ask friends but be prepared and TRULY a certified copy of a marriage license is MUST HAVE! My opinion is that in many cases it is about the first impression and you always have only one chance to make a good one!

funny, huh

they have a lot of wisdom over there in China :D

ogenkideska, Addie san ?

In my interview letter it says "marriage document", not license. So I wouldn't have thought of bringing the license, but the actual marriage certificate.

I would like to remind you guys that making fun of people is not the purpose of this forum. So when you can please refrain from doing so, alright? ;)

Does the interview notice state anywhere to "Bring Originals "

And I still stand by my earlier post, although I did not mean to be offensive I feel that the one Document of th emost importance in AOS through Marriage is The Marriage license so Original would make the most logical sense.

Nice attempt at Japanese which has nothing to do with chinese. and further more you tried to ask "am I well?"

No I am not upset, you misinterpreted my reply; if I was upset I would tell you to stick your foot in mouth while simulaneously sticking my foot up your arse

Just kidding... :D

is there a difference?

is there a difference between marriage license and marriage certificate?...i know that in nyc you get a license to get married and then when you exchange the vows and all that, they take the license away and give you a marriage certificate.

well in nyc they take away your license when you get married....and they give you a certificate...is this what you are talking about?? well if the interview notice says to bring a marriage document then you should have taken your original marriage certificate, but a marriage LICENSE!!!??? ...i don't know about that one....i mean in nyc there's no way we can take the license b/c they take it away after you get married.

I agree with you.

I officially got married in Manhattan City Hall (even though I had a pro-forma ceremony 8 days after that overseas). The license, which we got 3 days before, was taken away and signed by the officiant. When we got married (it lasted for like 7 seconds) and exchanged rings, the officiant gave us the original marriage certificate.

I don't have a license anymore. License is a necessary document to be able to legally get married, at least in New York State.

thank you all for your answers..and honest ones lol..wow u guys seem pretty excited about this...well my friends i had an interview in san bernardino california and i was married in Las Vegas..i brought my marriage certificate and license plus the receipts...they only thing the officer asked about was the certified marriage license that i had no idea what it was..she just wanted to give me hard time that s all....plus for your records they dont stamp in your passport anymore...they only rip the I-94 from your passport and mail you out their decision....one more thing stick with the subject next time...we r not here talkin about chinese and japanese....morever, my interview went so smooth she didnt even ask us for pictrures or anything...only bank statement and utilites + the lease...she made some copies too for herself...and that certified marriage license my friends looks like a birth certificate (an american one lol)...i had my interview on friday and i dropped off this missing document the next monday...:) thanks again...and take it easy guys :D

I have a feeling the OP meant certificate. All a licence does is give two people the right to get married, ie makes sure you're not related, are 18 years old, etc but it does not show proof of marriage.

You can get a licence and not get married if you change your mind.

Congratulations!
It sounds like you're approved.
But they do stamp passports as long as your FBI and name check is cleared and if you insist (and maybe wait).
