Kids are not required to have a certificate of citizenship; their passports are good enough to prove US citizenship. Don't waste time and money on the certificate.

I agree on not being required and that it costs money and time, but some people might still choose to get one for whatever reason: having an extra proof of citizenship, resting assured that USCIS knows that the child moved from permanent resident status to citizenship status.

Anyway, I don't know how NYC processes things, but in many cases they don't send a receipt. Only thing you will get is either an interview letter or the certificate. New York seems to be processing certificates under 6 months.

What are the documents required to apply for Child's passport. My daughter has just become a US Citizen, when I naturalized.
Thanks.

I think a copy of her GC and BC would suffice. With regards to your proof of citizenship, your naturalisation certificate is the best choice. Reason being that you have to prove that your daughter held GC status the day you naturalised. That date is only printed on your naturalisation certificate.

Do I have to send in the original Green Card ?.
Can I send my Passport Card in lieu of the Naturalization Certificate ?.

Child's original green card, original birth certificate and parent's original naturalization certificate is required. They will all be returned to you.

Thanks for the correction. I was under the incorrect impression that a copy of GC and BC will suffice.

Child's original green card, original birth certificate and parent's original naturalization certificate is required. They will all be returned to you.

PASSPORT APPLICATION- Secondary ID for CHILD

One more thing guys.

What document did you submit as a second id for the child. Obviously children cannot not have a drivers license until they reach 16.
TIA.

My brother, who's 17, applied for a passport through deriving his status from my parents, and they asked for marriage certificate. Just something to keep in mind.

I think parents' marriage cert is required only if the child is claiming derived citizenship from his naturalized father. My son's application did not require my marriage cert since my wife also naturalized along with me. The acceptance agent at the post office told me that my wife's nat cert and my son's birth certificate+his GC is all that is required.
