I vaguely remmeber immigration status was asked in Census 2000. This year it will not be asked.

If it were to be asked and some noncitizens check the US citizen box, and then disclosed it on N400,
would USCIS demand on seeing the record? Census authority swear they would never shre info
with any other branch of government.

By law it is a felony not to respond to Census form. So non-citizens please take care of this form
and citizens too.

This question falls along the lines of claiming to be a US citizen on a job application.
Since the census isn't a sworn statement, I don't see why an IO would further investigate such claims to US citizenship.

Census results will determine how much federal finacial assiance a regiuon can get. So many people have motive to lie on censous form and local politician may even encourage it. So there mnust be a law to punish lying on cnesus questionare.

We are supposed to get census form this month. Let's check it out. Sure this can already be diffeent from Census 2000.

Citizenship status doesn't affect funding for a region, so there was no gain in lying on 2000 census about citizenship status.

13 USC sec 221 allows for fines of up to $500 for those who purposely provide false answers on the form, although there's no indication on how often the census bureau has fined someone in the past for lying.
