Cashing N-400 fee check... or maybe USCIS don't want the money!

It has been more then 10 days and my check hasn’t been cached yet.. I have seen the time line of many in this forum yet to see any delay on caching the check unless they are going to return your mail ...which I don't see why...as far as the documents I don't have anything they would reject my case for. that's really interesting.

I draw the following reasons for my check not to be cashed…
1-Maybe they are rejecting my case due…
- I am applying on 90 days before the 5 years over ..but I was told by
someone that they are going to subtract any days you spent out of
US ..in this case I have like a month out of us therefore ..I am short
on the residency condition
- Some paranoid reasons :rolleyes: [you never know :)]
o Too many papers (a little over 50 pages ..most tax papers)
o Another small reason. in my check memo line I wrote N-400 fee …
and it was for $400 ..which means it include the fingerprint fee as
well.
2-Last week being the week of thanksgiving holyday ..so some delay may occur

I hope I am not being impatient… but when you are in a roller coaster you can’t help it ..literally it took me a little more than 3 weeks to prepare my papers …I have a special case in many levels …but I included all the paper work necessary for them to accept or at least to start the process ..so I don’t see where is the possibility to reject my case …and the question still remain.. why my check hasn’t been cached yet?! :confused:


Is there any one out there who had similar situation where his/her check cleared later then 10 days?


And a side from my above topic…

Being impatient/paranoid is because I have seen a lot …first hand (in my previous cases with USCIS) or in others (family member and friends)

Little example of first hand : I was trying to correct and fix my date of birth …as it was like this dd/mm/yyyy 01/05/xxxx ..but the INS at the time took it in my GC as mm/dd/yyyy so Jan/05/xxxx …later when I went to the INS tried to explain it to the immigration officer ..that my date was dd/mm/yyyy which is European and the whole world standard system on writing the date …but she goes “I have never heard that in my life” :eek: ..and didn’t fix it for me. :mad: ..and there is many examples of silly reasons I have seen with immigration officers ..so you can’t help it but to think that way.


Any helpful experience/info will be appreciate it :)
 
Now hold on: Subtracting days ?? This is new to me.

I was out of US for a total of 5 months in the last 5 years using 7 trips.

I got my GC on 3/15/2002, so I can apply (3/15/2007 - 90) = 12/15/2006.

Can you guys throw some light whether I am correct.

Also is there any rule of Subtracting days ??

That's a decent bet. In addition to the weekends you lost Thursday to the holiday, and I'm not even sure that they were open Friday. If they were, then they probably had a smaller staff than usual.
 
I would fall more towards 90 day rule.Check for 400$ is good.I did same.My package got returned due to filing few days ahead of 90 days.It was long weekend.I figured our great US postal service would take time delivering.But to my suprise they delivered it next say and I didnt even do piority mail :eek: .Plus you send in too much stuff.Always keep package clear and to point.Its not like Immigration officers have a whole day to see your package..I am sure they have timelines.With INS only and always only give what they ask.Most of time we are opening all sorts of doors by providing info which is not needed at that time.

I don't think I was falling short ...in fact I filed 3 weeks after 5 year - 90 days ...but unless they do subtracting like I said ..very far reason

And about sending too many papers ..well I just follow the instruction ..I have special case for which I had to attach too many paper. and after posting this thread I found a page on USCIS website state the following
"Keep copies of all submissions. Don't assume the officer will have access to a prior file or record. Submit as complete a packet as possible so the case can be adjudicated from what you submit. Submit a complete packet of information for each petition or application. If officers have to review prior files or records, the adjudication of the case can be delayed substantially."

So what is the problem here... I really don't know!!!
 
Here is the update

I called USCIS customer service phone number 1-800-375-5283

And after going through the automated answering system.. an choosing to speak with someone …the estimated waiting time was said by the machine to be 25 to 30 minutes …but that wasn’t the case …I waited 70 minutes to get someone on the phone .

And that someone was really exhausted from the way he talking ..and I barely can hear what he says …after asking him my above question ..he told me that there is no record of my case at all …and he advised me to go and contact the US mail and ask for the receipt they have on their record on who accepted or receive the mail from the USCIS side and look at the stamp to read the Immigration Officer name and try to write a letter to that person to see what’s really going on.


So what I am going to do is to call the US mail and see what’s going on.


For your info. I sent my mail [express] ..to be delivered the next day which I tracked online and it did get delivered more then 10 days ago. And I have been checking my bank account [online and by phone] to see if my check is under clearing or something.

Here is what happened to me !

My Check didn't clear either. I waited 2 weeks and then called USCIS. The Person on the other hand advised me that there are cases where it takes 6-8 weeks for the check to clear so I am ok .....
A few days after I placed the call I received a call from someone in Indiana telling me she has received my N-400 and all the documents I have provided with it from the USCIS but the envelope was adressed to her.
When I wrote the check I made a mistake and the USCIS sent the N-400 + additional Info I included back but instead of sending it to me they send it to a stranger somewhere in Indiana. To my luck she sent it back to my house and I was able to just resend it with the correct amount.
When then finally the Check (#2) was cashed I realized that I had gotten 2 different Case #'s. The first one must of been cancelled because I can't see anything online and the second it is my current one.
Here is what I suggest to you. Call the bank, put a stop payment on your check and then re-apply.
 
they sent your personal info. to the wrong person and you didn't even file a lawsuit ..I think at least you should have mentioned that in your second package in a letter or something. that's interesting.

as far as stopping the check through my bank ..I think I will wait for one more week before I do so. because there could be something they deny my case for ..and resubmitting my case will not prevent what happened with the first mail to happened again with my second one. in your case it was a error on the check ..but that's not maybe mycase ..
