case transferred to Local Washington DC office

The online case status in regards to mine and my wife's case has been just a few minutes before.

The following is the message

"On September 23, 2004, we transferred your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status to an office in WASHINGTON, DC for processing. Our office in WASHINGTON, DC will send you a written decision as soon as processing is complete. You should receive a notice informing you that your case has been transferred to a local office. Please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283 to receive information about local office processing times"

what are the implications around it? How much more time it might take for it? In the forum i see lot of people getting approvals straight away without the cases being transferred to local office. Why is mine transferred like that? Is that mean something fishy?

Please share the experiences. It will help me a lot.

Sorry to know that your case got transferred. I am having the same dates like you. Sitting tight and checking for emails. Hope DC process your case in a month or 2.

Did you get any emails for this status update?

Yes i did receive emails stating that mine and my wife cases are transferred in the morning. Also the online messages have been changed. The LUD is updated to 9/23/04 i.e. today.

Washington DC is currently processing I-485 applications based on August 28th 2003 (receipt date). Mine is RD 12/4/2002. I don't know they prioritize the incoming applications from service center based on the date application is received (like my case sometime after today) or based on the receipt date?

Also i spoke the vermont service center representative about the situation of my case. She said its 100% that i have to attend the interview in regards to the approval.

Will there be any chances of cases be rejected vs approved?

Mine is a future employment case. My sponsoring employer is different than the one i am working for.

Guys can people who got approved after attending the interviews in Washington DC share their experiences.

Confirm Receipt Date !

You may contact the DC office to confirm what the receipt date means for them. I think it may mean the date the case was transferred to them, in that case yours will be 09/2004. I may be wrong, so contact them to confirm.

Wonderfulboy,
Please check the thread for Transfer to Washington DC under "transfer to Local Offices" Forum. There is a humongous thread for DC there. The details will be pretty discouraging though once you go thru it...

DC office transfer is a worse thing someone can hope for...

Does any body know

1) How much time will it take for the applications to be transferred from vermont service center to local office?

2) What is the meaning of the processing reciept date for local office? Is that the date the application is received in their office or the original 485 receipt date?

3) Is it a mandatory that all people whose case is transferred to the local office have to attend the interview?

4) After receiving the application how soon the local office might send an invite for the interview?

5) What kind of documents need to be taken for the interview?

6) What are the chances of getting the case rejected compared to approved?

I think swaiting is talking with his ignorance. The DC processing date in 08/2003. That means you will be getting a interview date in less than 2 months.

That way you are lucky. I am with same RD like yours. Completed my FP2 on 07/22. No RFE or nothing so far. I faxed to FBI to find out the name check status.

Hope something happens to my case.

Guys i have another question after my case is transferred to local washington dc office. My 2nd EAD and AP is expiring in 2nd week of february 2005. Now since my case is transferred to washington dc do i need to apply for 3rd ead and 3rd AP at local office directly or as usual need to file normally?

Please share the experience.

Also the biggest scary thing i am looking at in the forum of local office transfers is people are not receiving interview notices atleast after 6 months - 1 year the case is transferred. Is it the case with washington dc office also?

Hi Guys,

Can any one share their recent experiences of 485 interview process in Washington DC office? My case has been transferred to Washington DC office. I am not sure why case has been specifically moved to local office rather than approving straight away.

I never had any RFE till now after i filed my labour application in May 2001 and 485 process in December 2002.

My labour is filed from Virginia state at that time i used to work in New Jersey. After that i moved to Maryland state and then currently i am in Virginia state.

Around 2 months before i bought a house and i moved to new house in june 2004. I notified BCIS for change address (both AR-11 and called 1-800-375-5283 to reflect 485 process).

Gave 2nd Finger Prints on July 24th 2004.

2 days before from current date i.e. 21st September 2004 before my online case status changed to transfer to local office some one from BCIS called from local area i.e. 202 (washington DC area). The representative asked me if i have any outstanding issues during that call he confirmed that my 2nd FP finger print reports are received, Investigation background report has been received and when i asked him he said the process will be approved in the regular process.

On 23rd september i.e. yesterday mine and my wife's online status changed that the case is transferred to washington dc office.

I have sent an email my attorney i.e. Rajiv Khanna (owner of this website :-)). They said will contact soon.

I want to get an estimate how much time it will take to get the application transferred for me and my wife's cases? How soon will they issue interview notice? How stressful will the interview be? Tips for the interview? What documents need to be carried for the interview? Do i need to do my medicals or finger prints again?

Bear with me for long message. But please do share your experiences.

1204Gc,

DC office goes by the date they receive the transfer not by any other date. There are cases like Zkahn, whose application has been pending for 2 yrs or more since transfer. My sisters app was transferred to DC office last yr in Feb and She had her interview after 9 months (she was lucky)...

Thirdly DC office is planning a so called move from last few months... So they have not sent appointment letters to anyone from last 6-7 months... Hopefully you will be lucky and your application will be approved directly otherwise you will Enjoy the DC office....

Wonderfullboy - You have to apply AP to local office in Future.

swaiting!!!

You might be right buddy but you are scaring me by the timelines interview waiting period is like 9 months or more etc. Is there any contact number where i can call the local office to find about my case guys?

I think the days ahead for me seems to be very tough in regards to the approval.

Swaiting: My trick worked. I want more details from you. One of the ways to get that is to instigate.

Sorry for so mean. I am ignorant in this case.

Cant help being so pessimistic but 9 months is if you are very lucky..
Even after the interview, my sister didnt get the GC because the officer started the security name check after the interview. So it was 6 more months after that...

On the other hand, NJ office is doing interviews in 1 month after transfer...

DC office is just a freakin nightmare...

Get ready for your 3rd EAD and AP....

Apply with the local office. They will forward it to the 'National Benefits Center' and issue a receipt with a 'MSC' receipt number.

(just my 5 cents)

Receipt date of District Offices for I-485

Guys,

Can you guys who had interviews received from washington dc office for final 485 interview answer me this question?

The district processing dates of washington dc are they working based on receipt date of the transfer case (i.e. when they receive the application) or the receipt date of the original 485 application?
