Case transfered to local office

Gurus,

My PD is August 16, 2002 and I am EB3 worldwide. I have just received a notice that my case has been transfered to the Houston, TX local office for interview.

It is frustrating that after all these years, 3EAD, 3AP, the USCIS final decision was to transfer my case.

Please could anybody share their experiences about case transfers - what does this mean?, how long does it take to get an interview, and what to expect in the interview.

Thanks,

I was in a similar situation when I filed my I485 in April 2004 (my case is
now approved and am an LPR since June 05 though).

Within few months of filing of I485, the case got transferred to local
office (TSC). I think it was during Nov 04.

I also got the standard message with a notice saying that it got transferred to local office and that the processing could take upto 999 days blah blah.

When I checked with my lawyer about it, he said that there could be some information (like birth certificate or marriage certificate etc) that the USCIS would want to verify so he told me to prepare all the paperwork.
So, did I.

To my surprise, without interview, I got my I485 approved in June 05.

I read in this forum - from many different postings - that mostly likely
the interview would be to make sure verification of documentation and also to make sure that the person is working in a job.

So, I would suggest you to start preparing a file containing originals of all documents. Who knows, you would get through without an interview, like in my case.

Most importantly, RELAX.... In a worst case scenario, you can always fight with AAO on the adjudication and let them re-open the file, if yours is a genuine case.

Look on the bright side... There is something happening to your case.
Unlike others who don't get to hear from USCIS (getting struck in name check etc) for many years.

Good luck and God bless

dch_tony,

I do not mean to scare you but local TRXs are very unperdictable in nature. Most cases are TRX in order for the local office to conduct an interview. There are always expections but they are few and far between. As for the processing time for TRX cases, it depends purely on the local office you have been transferred to. They work at their own pace and you can only get updates from them.

Usually a case takes about a month or more to physically get from the National Service Center to the local office. I would visit the local office in a month to see if the case has been received there. From now on, a visit to the local office will be your only way of keeping track of your case.

As for my personal experience, my case was TRX to a wrong local office and it sat there for almost a year. I lost a lot of time in trying to get the case back. It was finally taken back by TSC and then it got retrogressed.

My advise to you would be to stay on top of your case as much as possible. Make sure the case gets to the local office by visiting them in a month and making sure they got it. After that you should follow up with the local office in person.

I am not sure if my experience help since my case was in LA local office. I found it faster for me to get status info via infopass. At one point I was directed by InfoPass people to an office and was able to talk to AO directly. The AO checked my case file right on spot and asked me to send in a copy of my degree. Then I Fedexed a copy next day and the case was approved 1 day later. Sure this must be a really fast RFE and response and action.

See it is not always a bad thing for your case in local offices.
