I really feel sorry for you. After 5 years in to process VSC should approve your case instead of sending it to Newark office. I am amazed by VSC\'s inefficiencies. At times they send RFEs! I mean give me a break - after 4-5 years instead of approving the case transferring it to local INS or asking RFEs is like putting salt on a wound. If they would just approve the cases in 12-18 months, they would not have to do this. 5 years is a half a decade and in this rapidly changing job market, anyone could lose a job or anything wrong could happen. At times people might be able to pull through 12-18 months, but as time goes by, the risk of something going wrong increases. By prolonging the time taken to approve I-485 application, INS increases one\'s risk of not getting the green card! Can you comprehend this? Not only INS doesn\'t approve the AOS applications during the specified time frame, but while INS was sleeping over the applications, they want to see whether you continued to put up with your current job/boss/working conditions, no matter what!
Enslaving people for 5 years is just pathetic and inhuman - sometimes jerk boss, sometimes bad working environment, lack of interesting work, missed professional opportunities (forget lower pay for a while). Instead of approving the AOS application, sending an RFE or xferring the case, is just another way of prolonging the torture/slavery. Whoever gave INS this right? And, I wonder why people don\'t sue INS? After so much of sunk cost (money, stress, frustration, time etc.) what else is to lose, except GC?
