Case Still Pending

Greetings

My wife and I had our interview, and the IO stamped her passport, with her green card number. But...he also put "pending" on it. The fact is, I will need an affidavit, and her security check is not completed. I have 2 questions: Can I have my parents as affidavits, even if they are both retired? and also, What is the security check all about? Any information would be very appreciated. Thank you.
 
Not sure about the affadavit but the security check is what is also sometimes referred to as the FBI namecheck. It is basically a background and file check carried out by the FBI of several domestic and international databases. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few years to complete.
