today i got my i-485 notice of action and got a receipt numbet that starts with "msc". how do i check the status of it? before the src i was abel to look at https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/caseStat.jsp and now i can't. should i wait or this search engine doesn't have the msc numbers?

and while we are at it, how long till the biometrics? thank you.
It's the same search engine for every case number. If it can't find it, that means they haven't updated their system with that number yet.
And, I don't think it would be any different if you add that case number to your portfolio. If it can't find it, it can't find it...

Dear Anahit,

Sometime ago I saw you were asking about I-181 on another thread.

Application (or Form) I-181 is a form used by INS to create a record of lawful permanent residency ONCE they approve someone's I-485. This is for INS use (official use).

Hope this answers to your question.

:)

Hey, Johnny!
Nice to hear from you again. And thanks for your response. :)

I just got my receipt number today and I'm having the same trouble as you. Are you able to get in now?

You shouldn't worry too much about the online case status. Been there done that.
My online case status was like frozen for weeks until I finally got the physical GC.

Hi Johnny,

Hope you're still around to respond. :)

My father's I-485 is still pending due to completion of "routine background checks". And his case didn't have a receipt number because it was sent to the local office (a little after I filed for my parents, they changed the submission place of family based applications to Chicago Lock Box).
Recently, after changing the resident address on my father's file, I got a verification letter from USCIS about the address change. To my surprise, they added a receipt number to his case. So, I was finally able to check his case status online. This is what it says:
"Application Type: I181, CREATION OF RECORD OF LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENCE

Current Status: Case received and pending.

On January 26, 2005, we received this I181 CREATION OF RECORD OF LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENCE, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register."
Obviously, this was never updated, since my father was interviewed in July, 2005. But the question I had when I read this, was about I-181. Apparently, they do not create it ONCE the I-485 is approved.
Am I right? Or something else is wrong with this picture. What do you think?

Hi Anahit,

I have the same situation--I recently found out about the I-181 that was sent to the Nebraska Service Center by the Detroit District Office, and they did it before my case was approved. It was pending because of "security checks" and just recently (2 wks ago) got approved. The I-181 will not be updated until the Service Center gets your father's A-file with the approved I-485 from the District Office. Once his background checks clear, he will get a fingerprint notice once again; upon approval by the District Office, he will receive a Welcome Letter from the district AND an I-181 Welcome Notice from the Service Center where his I-181 is pending. It should go pretty quick once he gets the I-181 Welcome Notice.

Hope this helps! :)
