Got receipt by mail >10 days ago. However, when trying to check status/register email on USCIS website, the system kept telling me--

"this Receipt Number cannot be found ... ... "

Have been trying everyday, and also called the phone number for checking status, same always

Anyone has the same experience, or has some idea on what's going on?

Many Thanks!

Read my posts. My I-140 pending statuc was invalid all 9 months. When I-140 approval came, my case status appeared online (saying they received I-140 petition and it takes them ... days to process it), but still no iformation that it is approved online. Do not trust the online info, you've got your I-797 receipt and that is important !

Thanks soooo much for your information, Friend140 !

Made me feel much much better, and will also try to call if I have some time. Otherwise, I'll follow your suggestion and relax :)

By the way, congratulations on your approval

just an update for those people like me (case number doesn't work for status check).
140 approved, and the on-line status shows up the same day that it was approved.

Seems if CIS didn't input your case number into the system, they will never do it again until the next update.

It happened to me too and case status appeared only after my I -140 approval in april 2004

A similar problem

Hi guys, I am in the same boat. My I-140 petition was approved on May 31, 2005 (see my signature below). I have received I-140 approval, Form I-797, by mail (through my employer). But the USCIS online status still shows pending: “Your I140 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR ALIEN WORKER was received on March 3, 2005 ...” (I had no RFE). My I-140 LUD (Last Updated Date) was changed on June 1, 2005, but no change in the message. Apparently they have some issue with updating the database.

Although I realize that a paper approval by mail is a ‘real’ approval, a trick question arises in this context. Is a message in the USCIS online status check system intended for external customers only (i.e., for us)? We may imagine a situation in my case when USIS will be ready to approve I-485 petition (adjustment of status) after completion of the FBI name check but adjudicating officer cannot do that because he/she will see on his/her monitor that I-140 petition is still pending. Does USIS have another (internal) system which shows our real status? Should we ask USCIS to fix a flaw?

Friend140, is your I-140 online status still pending after I-140 approval?

Should be ok

I believe that the on-line system is only for "external" users like us, because if you try to get a CIS officer on phone and check the status with their "internal" database, they always have your correct status :)

how to talk an officer at USCIS?

wonder if there is a phone number to NSC to talk to the officer. Mine is pending since Jan after rfe received.

you can call the 800 number on your receipt, and if your case is one month later than the processing date posted on their website, they will transfer you to a CIS officer

For my case, the receptionist transfered my call to an officer because he can not find anything on my case when I called. Basically, the receptionist could see the same as what you can see through the on-line checking system
