Can't remove restriction from my SS Card

Guys,

Thanks Y'all for being such a great support at this site. It's like going to a shrink, except people at this site REALLY undestand you. ;)

Today I went into the SS office and filled out the paper work for removing a work constraint from my Social Security card.

The employee at the table told me that I need to present her a valid green card or a temporary I-551 card. I told her that it takes about 8 years to get a green card at the rate the USCIS is going, but I qualify for the new social security card NOW. I showed her a letter but she told me that I was full of sh&*t and that I needed to get my TEMPORARY 551 card first.

Is that TRUE, if not WHAT's my next step.

It is NOT true. She is full of bull****.

I remember there is some memo from someone...

Search the web, you should be able to find it.

I know what you are talking about man!. There is a lot of people who are working for these government offices who doens't know what they are doing. Next time you go there; I would recommend you to show your driver license, your I-94 card with the Asylee stamp on, The letter of grant of asylum in the USA, and your old social security card. If you not locky enought so you have to go to that ladie just ask for a supervisor.

ask to speak to the office manager which will clear up the misunderstanding. if not then call the SSA central office in Baltimore and complain.

Print this and shove it on her face...

It did help me get my clean SSN card. This is the problem that our government has, the left hand does not talk to the right hand... They need to update the list of the requirements. I am sure that they are using a list from mid 90's. A lot has changed since then.

Of course, do not forget your INS documentation that shows your status. They may say that they need to verify the information with BCIS, and that is fine. You should get your SSN within 60 days.

Here's an example of stupidity of Gov clerks: Lady at the Philadelphia City Hall asked me how to spell librarian when I applied for marriage certificate. :)

Thanks so much

Guys,

I think this thread really helped me out. I really appreciate everyone sharing their advices with me. I'll throw a storm at their office on Monday, stay tuned.

Man, take it easy. It's not worth it. My SS clerk had no idea about asylees and she tried to prove the same shit... I needed GC to get this damn SSC. I showed her my EAD and after she saw the category A05 she apologied and and accepted my application with no problems.

hsbc bank do not even consider my SSC as a common SS because of the restriction on the card. they do not put my SSN into the batabase,,, whenever i can the comster service. i need to tell the whole # on the card instead of telling my SSN.
