Canadian TN Holder moving to the US

I was doing some research he regarding this and couldn't find anything thus this thread. I spoke to a US customs officer a few weeks ago and asked him that I intend to move so I am closer to work and whether I would have to fill out any documents regarding my personal belongings (including my computer, car, etc) and he told me that no paperwork is required. When researching this a few months ago via google, I thought I read somewhere that a form is needed to account for personal belongings? I was going to bring this up with the officer but didn't want to cause myself any headaches if he took my questions the wrong away.

So can someone possibly clear this up? Also, any other pointers would be greatly appreciated (car insurance, health card changes, when to report my address change to the USCIS, suggestions for TFSA / RRSP, etc).

I do appreciate any information especially the must do's / dont's.

Just wanted to let anyone out there who is thinking of this is to start building your credit history asap before the move. The 3 easiest things I ended up finding out and doing was (assuming you already have a US bank account) is to apply for either a secured loan or CC. Next if you have a Canadian Amex, they have a Global transfer program where you can get a US card (note, they will need a US mailing address - PO Boxes don't work and will ask for a document showing your US mailing address - I have a cousin who volunteered his address and I contacted my bank to update my address, waited a month, then when my monthly statement came out, I provided this to Amex and had no issues getting the card). Lastly, apply for Platinum Mastercard® from Capital One which you will most likely be approved even if you have no US credit score. They will most likely give you the minimum $300 amount but it will get the ball rolling regarding helping you get your credit score going.

Thank you for the response Nelsona. I will check out the website for financial information. Regarding moving though (I will be driving over with my car and personal belongings), do I have to show any documentation to USCIS when I make the move?

The border is run by CBP. You are importing goods, so yes you will need to supply documentation. Check CBP website and/or cll the border where you will be crossing.
