Ginnu,
But once we walk into the Canada, you will be interviewed at port of entry (by road/air) right?
------------------If you enter Canada by car then you are sitting in the car and customs officer asks your purpose. Just say “Permanent resident of Canada and returning home” or “Canada PR returning home” Go
You cant use Air. Train/Bus with expired PR Card.If go by air then you first meet Canada customs officer he/she just asks how many days you were out or when did you left Canada and many say left 10 days back to meet friends/relative in US and they normally don’t ask much as they don’t have exit data from Canada. If custom officer has any problem then they send you to immigration officer and if immigration officer is satisfied by your answer then he may write RR on your passport RR means returning resident. FYI Canada customs officer can’t stop your entry to Canada and Immigration officer can only write a report that he is not satisfied by your answer and according to Immigration officer you have abandoned Canada PR status and you will be admitted to Canada and will be given 30 days notice to appear before immigration judge to clear the matter. Air is not advised
Then the immigration officers at port of entry would not let you enter inside Canada once they come to know your PR card is expired.
-------------Expired PR card does not mean that your Status as PR of Canada got expired. don't mix PR card expiry date with PR status expiry. if you use Air then you need to have unexpired PR card. if you walk to Canada or use car or use Taxi then you can enter Canada with expired PR card. it is much better if any friend from Canada comes in card to US side and he is driving and you are sitting with him and in that situation the person driving the car can answer to Customs officer at Border.
How do you handle this situation?
