Hi friends,

I wish if you can help me since i have no clue about this,

I am a canadian permanent resident, and will apply to match of 2012,

by that time i would not have the canadian passport, but have been living in canada for 3 years

after i do interviews in the US, and whether they select me for J1 or H1 visa,

can i have the visa (j1 or h1) issued from canada? or do i have to go back to the country whose passport i have although i have been living in canada for 3 years (place of last residence)

on the internet i read that permanent residents in canada are elligible to get letter (statement) of need from health canada if they have MCCEE, thats wht i understood,

but some guy tells me that they stamp the visas (h1 or j1) on your passport (which belongs to my country since i dont have a canadian passport)

can any kind soul help me on this?

Thank you so so much for your help

Yes, you can have the J1 visa issued from US Embassy or Consulates around Canada even though you do not hold a Canadian passport. I have personally done this at US Consulate in Toronto. You simply have to prove your status in Canada (e.g. PR, student, etc)

The two-year rule is based on your country of last "permanent" residence at the time that the DS-2019 is issued. If you do not have the Canadian PR at that time, you will be required to return to the country of last permanent residence indicated on the DS-2019 (even though you later obtain a Canadian PR).

Dear Pk_net,

thank you so much for your kind reply, its really gallant of you!!!

Do you think I would be able to obtain a Statement of Need from Canada health? or is this a hard task?

a guy told me that SON's are limited ... maybe you have a clue about that.

My last question (and i am exploiting your generosity here, so forgive me):

On september 2011 I would have been living in canada for exactly 3 years, which makes me eligible to apply for citizenship ... but then i want to apply for the US match for medical residency and will have to settle in the US starting july 2012 ... now how would I know when they would invite me for the judge's interview and neutralization if my place of residence would move to the US?

what should I do? i am totally puzzled ... would that make my application for canadian citizenship be look weak? I would have been living here for 3 years, but i need to go to the US to pursue my career.

What is your advice?

Please accept my unfathomable gratitude
