Canadian Landed Immigrant travelling to US

This is a very basic question, but I am new to Canada/US issues.

I plan to get canadian Landed Immigrant Status in 2007. After that, If I want to travel into the US, do I need to apply for a Visa of any sort? How long can I stay in the US before having to return to Canada?

What is your citizenship? Pre-2002, Commonwealth citizens with Canadian PR did not need a visa to visit the US. That has changed now. So I need to know what passport(s) you hold, before I can answer your query.
 
I hold an Indian passport.

My situation is this:
I am currently on L-1 which expires 12/2007. I am hoping to work around this by getting a LPR status in Canada and then come back to US to be with my family (This may involve getting B1 Visitors or a H1 Visa too). If this means having to visit Canada every 6 months/periodically to maintain LPR status, it would work fine with me. I just need a way to be with my family in the US.

Any suggestions???
 
Firstly, to maintain PR status in Canada, the requirement is NOT to visit Canada once every six months. The requirement is to reside in Canada for 2 full years in every 5 year period. Since you have valid L-1 status in the US until 12/2007, you should not have an issue. Complete your landing formalities as soon as you can in 2007. Then go back to the US on your L-1 status until 12/2007. You will be out of Canada for a maximum of 12 months (assuming you land in 01/2007). So you will be okay as far as maintaining your Canadian PR status until you move for good to Canada in 12/2007.

Suppose if i have a canadian PR, do i need a visa to go and work in US.
I dont have canadian PR yet. I am planning to apply.

Need for US visa depends on your citizenship. There was a time when holding Canadian PR along with any Commonwealth citizenship allowed one visa free entry into the US. That is no longer the case.

I have an appointment for H-1B stamping in the US counsalate at Calgary.
I will be a landed immigrant, first time H-1 stamping, US degree holder...Are/Can/Has there been any issues at Calgary counsalte????Is there a time limit to file DS 156 electronically???
