Hello all,

Could anyone recommend an attorney in Chicago which specializes in canadian immigration law?

I am sick and tired of waiting for GC and wanted to take a look at what it would take to move to Canada.

Thanks in advance,
M

My own experience - waste of time and money!!!

Honestly, you do not need a lawyer. This forum is very useful. I hired a lawyer and paid all the money up front. All he did was, he verified the initial application and typed on the application. Again I never wasted my time by contacting him. Believe me this is my own experience.

Just do the following:

1. Do the assessment (Canada Immigration Website or any law office website, search in this forum or Google for more info)
2. Down load the application and spend some time to fill out all the info and gather all the documentation.

Good luck!!!

Yes, Do not spend money on Lawyers. You can apply on your own. Just go to www.cic.gc.ca and you will know all the info. I did the same.

Good Luck!

Thanks "prman" and "Sree_Manikanta" for quick reply!

I would probably want to do it myself but the company that is currently sponsoring me here in US (and would sponsor me in Canada) wants to go through attorney and most importantly they (my company) are sceptic and would like to find out if I could have 2 processes going, one here in US and another in Canada.
Btw, I have Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from US and 4 years of professional experience, I took the self evaluation test on some website and found out that I should be fine from the points perspective.

Could anyone share their thoughts on this and also on the experiences with Canadian immigration departments (timeframe)?

Thanks a bunch!
M.

I'm also contemplating right now whether to use a lawyer or not. I've been here in the US for more than 10 years now as an engineer with an H1-B and I'm starting to consider going to Canada. I think I can file it by myself but would probably need a forum like this to somehow get tips on how to go about it. Do I need to completely submit all the requirements right away or some (like IELTS and clearances) can follow? Any info. will help. Thank you.

In my opinion, submit all the paper work that mentioned in the application. Since you are in USA for 10 years, I think you can submit a letter for your english skills.

Good luck!!!

Thank you for replying. I will try to get all the paperwork in upon submission. Thanks again and please visit this forum once in a while for any questions that I might have in the future. Good luck.

No problem and I will visit this awesome website regularly….

Thanks!!!

Is there a fixed US dollar application fee or it varies depending on the exchange rate? Can't find this info on the CIC site.
