Canadian Citizenship while in US

In order to obtain canadian citizenship one must have physical presence of 3 years as PR in Canada. There are few exceptions to this rule. One is to be employed aborad by a Canadian business.

My question is if someone (canadian PR) opens a consulting firm in Canada and then become employed by a foreign employer as a full time employee/consultant through his company, will he be able to count his time aborad as physical presence in Canada to fulfill citizenship requirement?

Thanks.

mercury6:

as per the attorney I consulted, it is possible to go for CP if you had been in AOS for at least 180 days using your current LC & I-140 (just as you'd do if you're in AOS using AC21).

I hope this would give you some hope.

Any comments on my thought??

AOS -> CP in canada?

Hi Mercury,

My I 140 was approved and i had indicated AOS processing in that. Now if i want to change from AOS to CP in canada, is that possible. I am a canadian landed immigrant. Can I do CP in canada or have to do that in home country?

I have heard that you need to file I 824 in order to go from AOS to CP. Any consulates in canada do AC 140 processing and how long would that route take.

Thanks,
Furat

congratulations mercury

good to hear that after all your hassles there may be light at the end of the tunnel...
