I am canadian citizen 36 years old, single (divorced), presently in US on student visa and doing MBA in UMass Lowell. I have already masters degree equivalent to US from India. My parents are US citizens. Following are my questions:

Can my parents start my immigration process, if yes then how much time it will take? will it effect my possibility to work on campus or out of campus (which F1 holders can do). Will school give me SSN for on campus or out of campus work and will not get affected by my immigration process. will I be eligible for OPT after I finish my degree because my immigration application is in progress. If I get some H1B or TN visa sponsored job will this immigration process will affect these visa processes. Also being a canadian I have mulyiple entries to States, will I be allowed to go to Montreal, if I my family immigration starts.

Please advice me. what is the right path.

Thanks
Kiran

about 6-7 years, if you don't marry, and 8-9 years if you marry and your spouse is not a USC willing to sponsor you.

not if you don't leave the states and maintain your F-1 status

getting SSN has nothing to do with your immigration process. Your school doesn't issue SSNs either, although they need to be involved for it to be issued.

will I be eligible for OPT after I finish my degree because my immigration application is in progress.
if you don't leave the states and maintain F-1 status at all times - yes.

If I get some H1B or TN visa sponsored job will this immigration process affect these visa processes.
no. But a pending immigrant petition will affect your prospects of getting any non-immigrant single intent visas, like TN and F-1. It will not affect H1 or L1.

Also being a canadian I have mulyiple entries to States, will I be allowed to go to Montreal, if I my family immigration starts.
you can go anywhere you want to. The question is whether you will be able to come back to the States. Most likely not.
