Canadian Citizen: need help

Hi there.I'm new on the boards and apologise in advance if this is on the wrong forum area, as I am quite confused about my situation.

I'm a Canadian citizen, 21, currently not in school, and my girlfriend resides in the US. I'm now looking into moving to the US to live with her, and seek employment most likely starting with simple part time or full time work (eventually moving into college or univerity programs form there).

I have little to no knowledge of the green-card system, or which kind of application I would classify under. I've read of employment green-cards that seem to be based around larger employment situations such as careers and that sort of thing. If anyone would be able to help me find out what I need to do to apply for one, or what kind of eligibilty I have, waiting times...etc. I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks in advance =)

To become a permanent resident (green card holder) there are many avenues.
Heres a link to the uscis site.

Start here and you can link to different catagories depending on what you may be eligible for. The process takes years.

You may be eligible for different visas to get you into the states to live, work, depending on your situation. You can find links to these also in this same site. Look under How do I? right hand side of web page.

to answer simply:
you can get a work visa if you are a good specialist with a good job, who is needed in the US.
Otherwise don't waste time, the only other option is through marriage.
