AFAIk, you can just walk in to an INS office and get AP. This is what a friend of mine did an year ago. I don\'t know the procedure though.

I think you have to have your I-485 filed at SF so you can get your AP at SF

You need to file for AP with the field office with which the 485 has been filed. At SFO walk-in AP\'s are permitted for Employment based cases only in the event of a personal emergency viz. sickness in the family.
CSC only accepts AP applications by mail. Not a bad deal because I filed mine on Dec 3 and got a receipt by Dec 8. I had a previously approved AP which was lost in the mail
