Can we travel to other countries using AP?

Hi All,

I would like to know if we can travel to any country and come back to US using AP. I am from India, and so am I restricted to travel only to India? Because the AP states that it for emergency purpose only. However, I am on EAD and don't have any other kind of visa....and we love to travel and would like to go South American Tour (Brazil, Argentina etc).

I need to travel to India also, and before applying for my GC I was an out of status F-1. I never left the country because the 10 year penalty would apply and I could have not been able to re-enter, but since I am in the process of getting a GC I wonder:
1. Can use the AP to go to India?
2. Does it matter that I am not an Indian citizen, and it is not an emergency?

1. If the 10-year bar applied to you before, it will still apply even if you have AP. It even says so on your AP document.

2. It doesn't matter where you go.

Being out of status is not the same as being illegally present for purposes of the 3- and 10- year ban.

I do not have an AP: I wanted to apply for one, but I had read somewhere among the pile of paperwork I read before filing that it was pointless, so I didn't. Now, I am pretty sure I can't travel until I get my GC.
