Can we pay visa fees in $$$?

I was reading that somebody paid their visa issuence fees at consulate in US $. Is it possible to pay in $$ in Mumbai consulate also. They say that pay fees in local currency. Any idea????

For NWD it is RS or draft. I don't think they take $$.

I had heard that too. But a friend recently confirmed that it is not an option.

NWD accepts Drafts in indian currency and cash in US dollars.

Here is a copy of an email i rec'd from them regarding visa fee.

Dear applicant,
> You have to make separate drafts for each applicant for the amount of Rs.
