Can we go to the local INS Office ?

Will the local INS Office entertain enquiries about the status of a 485 case or the only way to check is the AVM/IIO ? Not everyone can go to Laguna Niegel office so I guess the local offices should entertain such enquiries.

Yes, they will

I went to local INS office at Sacramento and officers there were very kind in answering the case status inquiries. However, I was told they had very limited authority, so they could correct some mistakes such as a name mis-spelling, a wrong DOB, but they could not update your address.
