Can We Convert J2 To J1???

hI

i was wondering if I can change my J2 status to J1 ??? My husband is doinf his residency on a J1 visa and i am on a J2 spouse visa..I am planning to start my residency this year and i was wondering in what visa i can do my residency..If i start on a J2 visa ,I will have to leave when my husband leaves and I would not have the opportunity to complete my residency..more over I am not sure if my husband will get a Fellowship and by which i can convert my J2 status ......


any input is appreciated...

J2 to J1

I did it - in 1995- a most painful experience.
Then after completing my residency, got J1 waiver to work in an UNDERSERVED AREA. Did Labor Cert, filed I140, approved in 02/03.
Still waiting for GC.
But, u should also consult an attorney.
J1 waivers are drying up.
