Can we apply EAD while applying for I-140 alone

My spouse falls under schedule A program and we are thinking to file for I-140 alone at this point since visa screen certificate is required for I-485. Instead of USCIS issuing an RFE on I-485 w/o visa screen certificate we are thinking to file for I-140 alone until spouse is ready with visa screen certificate. My question is:- Can we apply for EAD at the time of filing for I-140 alone or EAD can be applied only when filing for I-485?
