Can use of medical condition as a reason for B2 extension prove negative

My mother is here in the United States wth a 6 month B2 visa valid until May '03. Also she has undergoing treatments at a local cllinic, which if taken for another 6 months would help. I am sure the Physician wouldn't mind giving me a letter to file along with the I-539 application.

My question is, my mother has been given a B2 visa for pleasure & tourism to stay in the United States. But if I seek an extension of B2 visa, on medical grounds, then it defeats the purpose of a B2 visa (pleasure & tourism). Would mentioning the reason for extension on medical grounds have a negative effect on the approval of the same.

Also does anyone know if there is a special visa category for visitors coming to the United States exclusively for medical treatment.

I also intend to take her to several tourist destinations within the United States, while getting medical treatment.

Any suggestions/advise on this regard would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
