Can u work without EAD ?

I\'m in unique situation and wanted to see what this group thought.

My EAD application is pending since last 5 months. My current EAD expires 2/20 ( next week). I went to the local INS to get my interim EAD. They have set me up for an appointment after 3 weeks!

My understanding was that one can get an Interim EADs within a day.

Now this puts me in a potential situation of not having EAD for 2 weeks. Can I work under these circumstances?

Any views will be appreciated..

Have your employer record that 2 weeks as leave without pay or some such thing. Or go to the nearest district office and get the EAD . You might have to go there early in the morning and spend the whole day there to do it...

I am in the same boat. I have received the following info from my lawyer. The INS regulations say that she doesn\'t have to apply for reauthorization so long as her adjustment application is pending; however, the employer needs a document with which to re-verify her employment authorization, so the other option is that she can take a copy of her receipt notice to the INS office . I\'ll send a copy of the receipt notice with your FedEx
 
legally you cannot work but......

You need valid unexpired EAD to work if your work petition (H1-B) also has expired but ofcourse nobody is going to check you in the time you work without EAD.
Problem arises when your I-485 case is taken up by the INS officer and he/she notices a gap between EADs and this will cause problems in getting your 485 approved (delays, RFE, etc).
