Can this really happen?

It may be bad for some but good for India
An action like that will be bad for several individuals, but call it for India as a nation, It will be very good. Most of the work done by highly skilled indians will be done in India. May be Indian prime minister wants it to be done more than any one else.
I tell you, what a way to stop brain drain.
Please understand Due to globalization of this planet, only the efficient ones will survive. It could be on any scale (individuals, company, industry or even nation). Today US only is not only customer for high tech softaware and hardware. It is the world. Economy is taking the shape of least entropy (getting even worldwide) that means keeping better people in US will be better for Us itself. Trust me they know it and will do every thing to keep people like you in US.

Don't be so sure. Economy needs is one thing. Political necessity is another. Given the post 9-11 environment, anything can happen.
If that does happen, it will be beneficial to those foreigners who are already here, in the short terms.
In the long run, more jobs will be moving overseas. The US economy will be less efficient. More foreigners will be attacted to go oversea (or go home) as more high paying jobs will be available elsewhere for IT talents with US experience. So in the long run, this will reward those young and advanturous talents who are willing to move. Those who are old and are not willing to move, will face the strinking IT job markets and a degraded US economy. Hope that will not happen...
