I got my green card in 2003

I applied for n470 and renetry permit (through my company) in aug 2006 snce i was transferred from a us company overseas. We never heard back about the status of my n470 although the rentry permit was immediately approved for 2 years

In dec 2007 I made my first trip back to us for 3 weeks I showed my rentry permit to the immigration officer.

I made my next trip to US in february 2008 for 3 weeks and then another trip in march 2008 for 3 weeks. Both times i showed my renetry permit

I came back to us in june 2008 (and submitted my reentry permit to the Immig officer at airport )and have been here since.

Based on this when can i apply for citizenship. I am really confused .....

Thank you so much for your help

Since you never followed up on the status of your N-470, you would only be eligible to apply under 4 year + 1 day rule since your permanent return to the US in June 2008, so that would mean June 2012.

Thank you for your prompt response.
Just to clarify here re. the n470 we did try to follow up. the lawyer indicated since it was filed locallly there was only a receiptdate and no receipt number. She wanted us to go to the local office and find out but since we were out of the country we were unable to do so. Does this make any difference
Thanks again for your help. Really appreciate it

Also one more quick qs.

Does the citizen application get filed under the jurisdiction of the service center where you got your green card or does it go under the jurisdiction of the center where i am currently residing

For gc renewal for my friend altho she lives in oregon, her application went under the nebraska service center where she got her gc approval. is it the same for citizenship as well.

If the N-470 wasn't approved, it's useless. You need to find out whether it was approved if you want to use it for preservation of continuous residence. If it was approved, you can apply for citizenship right now without a problem as far as continuous residence is concerned. You'll need to bring evidence of its approval to the interview.

hellohello123: You really need to find out what happened with your N-470 application. It is possible that it was in fact approved but that for some reason you were not notified about this (screw-ups like this do happen). As noted by others, if N-470 was indeed approved, then the entire period of your absence while working for your company overseas would still count as satisfying the continuous residency requirement, and you'll presumably be able to file N-400 immediately [you still have to check that you satisfy the physical presence requirement for the last 5 years, but based on the timeline you have given, it looks like you do]. Try to make an INFOPASS appointment at the office where N-470 was filed. If you have proof of payment of the application fee for N-470 (such as a cancelled check), bring that with you - the check may contain some identifying info that would help to trace the application. You could also write a letter to the Director of the field office where N-470 was submitted and ask for help. If N-470 was received, there must be a record of it in their files and they should be able to find out what happened to it.

Did you pay the lawyer and have her file it for you on your behalf? If so, she should have inquired about the status for you.

You would apply to the service center that covers your area. Read the naturalization guide and filing instructions online for details:

Yes the lawyer from my company was managing this. She was the one who suggested since after a year of applying I had still not heard anything (other than a receipt date )that I schedule an appt with the local office But since I was already out of the country there was no way to do this. So right now am in a quandary .. dont know if I can apply now or to wait until 4 yr+one day. Should I call the 1-800 number and try to explain this situation. I no longer live in the west coast where it was filed.

Thanks for helping me think thru this.
