I had my interview last week but the AO told me it could take a couple of months to resolve. I thought the general rule is that you need to get some form of decision in two weeks 'technically'. Am really anxious to know the outcome so that I can proceed with my life and chart the next cause of action.
Is it advisable to call the Chicago office after 21 days or whats the best thing to do.

My recommendation is to stay proactive on your case. Try and form some type of frequent communication not to the extent that it gets irritating. Another thing that I would like to say is don't worry about the decision. It is out of your control at the moment. You have done your part by submitting the application and gone for the interview. So just relax and enjoy your life. I am assuming you have your EAD therefore employment will not be a problem.

I had gone through the Chicago asylum office about a year ago and they informed me of their decision 7 weeks after my interview, even though their initial estimates were 2-4 weeks.

I called many times after the 4-week period, but they refused to discuss anything about the status of your case saying that they only look at written inquiries. So, I wrote a letter and they responded with a form on which they put a check sign next to a line saying something like "your case is pending and we will send you our decision". While that piece of information wasn't all that exciting, it at least made sure that they were still looking at my case. So, I would recommend that you write them regularly, but not too frequently, to make sure your case is pending or moving forward.

Good luck!!

Thank you guys for your moral support. I will just wait patiently as there is nothing much I can do.
gctz79 were you on valid status by the time you applied.
Thanks buds

No worries then - it's a usual practice that those who are in status get their decision 1-2-3 month later then those who aren't. Just be patient, you'll get the decision sooner or later.
