Hi

My husband and I currently live in Vancouver, BC and own our own small business, cutlery store (4.5 yrs supports our family, employs only the 2 of us.)
I am a born Canadian (27yrs old) and my husband is a Canadian Citizen of 23 yrs originally from Iran.

We are just starting to look to move to California to take our business there. Our suppliers are all US based and my husbands extended family all reside in CA. (aunts, uncles and cousins)

Where do we start? What can we expect?
We will basically sell our business off here and open a new one there. We will have about $200K to put into it, but we don't think we could hire a whole lot of employees straight away. Perhaps one or two, but for the first year I can't expect more.

Do we have a hope??!!
Any guidance or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Regards,
Tina

E2 Qualified

It sounds as though you have more than enough funds to open up your own business in California. I have helped a few Canadian clients obtain E2 visas based on their investments in California. You would basically need to start up a company in CA and then open a bank account, fund it with money and start expensing. I would say no less than $100,000 in the bank and no less than $30,000 in expenses. If you have these funds and follow the E2 requirements, you could easily get an E-2 visa.

Your spouse would also be eligible for an employment authorization document to work anywhere, or you could open the company up together. When you are forming your business plan, remember you are just projecting. Typically they would like to see that you plan to hire 3-4 employees over the next 2-3 years. Let me know if you have any other questions! (info@thevisaexpert.com)
