Can one work with a stamp in the passport?

Hi folks,

I've been applying for jobs all over the place in the hope that I can start working soon after I get my EAD or GC. Not a peep from the EAD side, but our GC interview is on November 20. I already verified at Infopass that my FBI namecheck has cleared. So, if everything goes well at the interview and I'm approved, I though I would ask for a stamp in my passport. I know the stamp allows people to travel, but does it also allow one to work -- or should I wait for the physical GC (or EAD) for that?

Thanks, and good luck!

The stamp is the equivalent of a Green Card in every respect.

The Real Canadian is right.
The stamp actually says "Employment Authorized" and the IO explains you that you're also allowed to travel.
It's a more convenient (you can't lose it) 1-year GC.

Forgot to ask... how likely is it that the IO will give me a stamp if s/he does indeed approve the GC? Is there anyway I can schedule an Infopass or something like that to get a stamp if they are not able to do it right away?

Some DO does not stamp anymore but if they do, your IO will do it right away. If not, then you can get an INFOPASS.

Good luck!

Yes. PP with I-551 stamp is ok for work.

It is 4th item in List A on Page 3 of I-9.
