Can one file 485 as single and add wife later on same app

Yes, you sure can. You need to file an amended i-485 for the spouce provided the i-485 application is not approved yet. If it is already approved then it requires a new application and is not considered a straight derivative rather a sponsored case.

As stated in the above, you have to file your spouse\'s case before your approval. But I also saw some postins on this site proviousely stating that even so, their amanded application got rejected. Another thing good to know is that if your two applications filed two longtime apart, then you may not able to link them together. So it will get process separately. But you may try to request them to be linked so your second amanded case will benifit from the early ND of the first application and two cases are processes together.
