Can one apply for another I-131 while waiting for I-485?

I filed I-485 for my mother on August 2003 to Washington D.C. District Office. She is waiting for interview notice from NBC. She applied for I-131 last year and approved through 8/4/2005. She has not travel yet. But she wants to go back to her home country in the summer and would like to stay beyond 8/4/2005.

Can I apply another I-131 for her?

If yes, can she travel before the approval of the second I-131? I mean, can she travel with the currect I-131 and use her second I-131 to reenter US?

Thanks.

I can write something to your second question. Nobody asks for AP while leaving USA, therefore I don't see why she would not be able to show the 2nd AP while coming back. All they need is a valid AP for entering.

Yes you can, however USCIS does not permit people to have two valid AP at the same time.
You will have to surrender her first one, if you apply and get approved before 8/4/2005.

Thanks for your replies Jane Green and Romit.

Jane, do you mean she has to surrender the first I-131 at the time she applies for the 2nd I-131? If so, it means she will have to wait for the 2nd I-131 to be approved before she leaves US.

Anyone happens to know NBC's processing time on I-131?

Thanks.

This seems wrong to me, i applied for multiple AP's and got the approval.

If you apply for a new AP you mom has to wait until it approved before travel.

The good news is - according to this table they're working on applications received on or before January 27, 2005

Well, I know for sure that a new RTD or Reentry permit won’t be issued if the prior document is still valid, but it seems like it doesn’t matter for AP. I think you might be right.
