i am cp-mumbai case (standard) and am staying in india with my future employer in US (the US and India firm are the same).
I am expecting consulate interview in June/July. My company wants me to join in US immediately after my IV approval.

I have heard that both husband and wife must be enter US at the POE at the same time. is it true? What if my wife due to medical conditions (pregnant) wants to come to US at a later date?
Can I and my wife tell this at the time of interview? if yes, what is the procedure?

What you heard (!) about the main applicant and dependent
entering US at the same time is absolutely wrong. The Consulate
gives them 6 months from the date of approval to enter US.

In your case the husband if he is the main applicant needs to
enter first. The dependent (wife) can come later, but within
that 6 month period. You and your wife will get your visas in
seperate packets.

While answering your query was not a problem, I suggest
you spend some time reading the material available on the
forum.

Thanks Raju for your reply.

If myself and my wife go for the interview and then I go to US and then my wife joins me later, will this be "Follow-to-join" case?
Do I need to mention this at the time of interview?

akroor,

Yes, you need to mention this at the time of the interview.
Also, when you fill out DS230, there is a question that specifically asks you if there will be any dependents joining you later.

Here’s a variation of the “Follow to join” situation. When I filed the DS230 with the NVC, I mentioned my wife’s name in 21a (persons who will accompany you to US now) and no one in the 21b (persons who will follow at a latter date).

We’re planning to attend the interview together, and I was wondering if we should tell the Consulate by updating the DS230 that my wife might stay back for a few extra days after I return and then return separately to the US? Most probably we should do that at the time of document submission on the interview date.

Would appreciate if anyone had a similar situation and can advice what he or she did in this situation.

From what I have heard about Mumbai ...
The consulate gives seperate packages for primary and derivative. So do not need to update DS.... persay. Spouse can travel later then the primary within 6 mos. of the interview.

Thanks Alren, that's what I also assumed but there is no harm in checking!

Cheers,

Rjain
