Hi,I am currently on j2 visa, and planning to apply for residency, i know that j2 can do so on EAD,and when my husband'sj1 changes to H1b when he gets a waiver,EAD can be changed to j1or H1,BUT,my question is that if i join on J2 with an EAD,and if my husband does not get a waiver job and goes back to home country for 2 year can i continue with some kind of extension or can my J2 be converted to JI.
I would greatly appreciate if somebody could let me know about this.
Thanks so much

No you can not. All rules applicable to J1 is applied to J2 (2 year home country, termination of J1 is termination of J2, applying for another J (1 or 2) is after the 2 year home country and so on.

You cannot convert or extend your J-2. However, you do not have to wait for 2 years to get another J-1 for yourself. The two-year home residence rule only prevents you from getting H/L/K visas.
I have held three J-1 visas (all with 2-year rule) within the past 2 years. You can read the fine print on page 2 of your DS-2019 for complete information.
