Hi All

Do you think that an international journalist, no Ph.d no masters, but lots of experience and high profile work would qualify for an EB1. I have what I consider lots of achievements in my field and really exclusive interviews.

I developed most of my journalistic experience in the Middle East where I worked for The New York Times, Reuters and the Dallas Morning News.

My news stories also appeared in the Financial Times, The Times of London, The Sydney Morning Herald and the New Republic among other publications.

I have tens of thousands of citations.

I now work for an international news agency in the U.S. as one of their correspondents. I won two awards form in 2003 and 2004 for stories on business deals for international corporations in the developing world.

I am frequent commentator on international affairs. I was interviewed several times by the BBC Arabic Service, al-Jazeera, al-Arabiya, Abu Dhabi TV. I spoke at important U.S. think tanks about the Middle East, and U.S. foreign policy etc. The events I spoke at were broadcast by C-Span. I was also interviewed by several U.S. radio stations. I have video and audio evidence of all that.

My work was referenced in a number of books and academic papers.

I interviewed statesmen, foreign secretaries of state, ministers and senior officials from across the globe. I also filed stories from 16 world locations.

My reference letter would come from fellow journalist in the New York Times, FT, Newsday, Reuters and others. What do you think? Do I have a chance or this is the wrong way to go. Private replies or public ones would be much appreciated.

Thank you all in advance. You are all great.

i think you should give it a shot. One thing to keep in mind is that whatever you are claiming it is that makes you extraordinary, it must prove to be something that is over above what your peers in your field have achieved.

thanks.

that's a good advice.

many of my peers do not have as diversified background as i am ( i think). few become authority on commenting or analyzing foreign policy affairs and make it to the media. i know it may not sound strong enough to some of you you. but through the media i can speak to millions of people, especially to people in the arab world. this is no small thing given how the us now views this part of the world as strategically important and are launching very expensive campaigns to win their "hearts and minds". the only drag for me is that i tend to say the truth and am often critical of us militaristic foreign policy which is as counter-productive to this country. so i guess the immigration officials may not like that. would they be influenced by my political views?

i also won a couple of journalism awards for reporting on shady dealings by enron in the developing world. my articles appeared in a book as some of the most censored news stories in the u.s. for 2003 and 2004. i am a member of some pay-based subscription journalism organizations. i guess my strongest point so far is the influence of the commentary and the level of recommendations letters that i can get.

also do you know if i can apply to eb1-niw at the same time? i am exploring eb1-ea, eb1-niw and perm. i’ll go for all three at different stages.

there is another point that you may not be aware of.

I am sure you have seen the list of 10 criteria of which you must satisfy at least 3. If you have not seen the list, it is on the USCIS website under the EB-1 EA catagory.

The other important point is that even if you fail to meet a signifigant number of the 10 criteria, you can submit "other comparible evidence" of your extraordinariness. While i met the criteria, i focused my application on the 'other evidence', which was 12 super strong letters of reference from basically the premier people in my field. of course, in their letters they made it perfectly clear who they were as USCIS shouldn't be expected to know who they are.

by the way, while officially for the USCIS your political writings are irrelavent to the approval of your petition, you should remember that it is a person that is adjudicating your petition and as such you do what them to be in a favorable state of mind as they review the petition. For example, in my petition i included many photos of my art work which i thought would 'liven up their day' as opposed to the mountains of sterile text they normally deal with.
