Can I use an unexpired H1B visa stamp to travel outside the US and re-enter if h1b status is revoked

I was laid off but my H1B visa is valid until Nov / 2011. Assuming that my employer has revoked my visa, can I use it to re-enter the US? There is a debate about whether the officer in the POE has access to the system showing revoked visas. My understanding is that if the employer has not revoked the visa then the employee can use the visa stamp to travel outside and come back without a problem.

-----if employer has no job for you and employer revoked H1 petition by writing to USCIS then your visa is invalid . H1 visa was based on Valid H1 Petition and valid job offer. You will be sent back from POE.

-------where is the the debate? POE officer has access to USCIS system and DOS. They know everything.

-------Misunderstanding.

You need to find a new employer to file a petition on your behalf. Do not attempt to enter the US without a new approval notice.

You are knowingly planning to violate US immigration law if you proceed with a plan to enter with a revoked petition. If is just plain stupid on your part to try to do so.
