Can I travel with I797C (extension of conditional resident status notice)

I applied for removal of conditions on residence and recieved the I797 Form which extended by status for a year and authorized me to travel and be employed.

My problem is I have to travel to Panama and am afraid I will not be able to reenter the country with an expired green card and the I797. What should I do? Can I travel with the notice or do I need to get my passport stamped? If so how do I go about doing that?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated I leave for Panama in 23 days!

ok theoretically if you bring the expired card and the noa that should be enough to get you back through US customs.

of course we do not live in a theoretical world

be prepared because they might give you a hassle.

There is NO NEED to get the PP stamped. Travelling with the passport, expired GC and the extension letter is correct and what USCIS intends for you to do.

Stamping is advisable if the expired GC is turned during processing for the new 10-year GC.
