Can I still apply H1?

My I-485 is pending, my current H1 will expire soon. and I have EAD, but Can I still apply extension to my H1?

But why would you like to do that?

I guess it is just a kind of "backup" for I-485. Say, if anything wrong with the current I-485, you can still continue to work on H visa and start another sesssion on green card struggle. So, it doesn't hurt to have H-1 extended.
