Please let me know. I have seen an old thread somewhere some people said the guy could work and others said different.

hello lil brit,
if i was you i would starting working if your employer is okay with it..some employers can understand the situation and let you start work. i dont think uscis is gonna investigate at this point ...well may be i am wrong but i would work if someone is ready to hire my at his poiint where approval of email has been received....

Hi Lil' Brit... If you don't get physical card in mail within 3 months (I think from the notice date), you can visit your service center with all the paperwork as they are requireded to issue your EAD within three months from the date of filing.
I don't think there will be any probs if you start working now.

Hi lit brit,
I think ur ok to start.May be the following dates might help.
Approval e-mail:17 JUNE
Approved :15 JUNE(acc. to e-mail)
Date on actual card:valid from 8 JUNE
Received card in mail:19 JUNE

So when u get card it will have a back date,so why not start working now. Also I think u will get the card within next 2/3 days.Goodluck

Brit, you should normally get your EAD within a week of getting the approval notice. Give it 10 days at the most. I am guessing that you are asking about that. If you meant the normal time taken to approve and issue an EAD, I see a lot of people on here getting it in about 2 months. It takes longer for some and a lot longer if you have an RFE.

Hi Guys

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info. Juno I will wait. I told the employer I had to wait for a little while longer. I dont want to chance anything....
Juno, I hope the card comes as quickly as yours did.

Juno, do u have an interview letter yet? If not I reckon u will get your GC without interview. I think I wont have to interview.

Thanks guys

Hi lit brit,
No interview letter yet,but i thought because our DO is processing nov 2005 so my guess was that the int.let wouldnt come in till next month. What makes u think we wont have an interview. But maybe u r right as my lawyer sent a lot of stuff like joint tax returns from last 3 yrs and BC of our 2 children born here and we have been married for last 6 yrs.
Anyways I am going to the SS off.today to apply.I will post u about the exp. there too.BYe for now.

Hi lit brit,
I went to Alexandria SS off. had to wait for an hour for my number to be called. The officer was nice asked me for birth certificate which I didnt take with me but I had my passport so he took that and the EAD card.HE didnt even take my licence though I had it out.He made copies and then printed out the paper that says I have applied for SS and they have to confirm information with INS and I would receive reply in 30 days.

good stuff

Hi Juno,

I reckon u will get the SS card in about 2 or 3 weeks MAX. probs in a week.!! :)
Do u know you are allowed to work without one. If you have applied for a SS number. It say this on the www.ssa.gov. So if you have a job tell the employer this rule.

Good luck. How many days from the approval email did it take for you to get the EAD..

Very impatient!! I hope it doesnt take too long!! :(

Wow, you would be really lucky if you get your SSN card in a week. I have never met anyone who got it that quickly, though people have gotten it in 2 weeks. I remember that it took me about 3-4 weeks to get it, many years ago. But like 'little britain' says, you can start working once you have applied for the SSN. You would probably need to give the number to your employer before you get your first paycheck though. Alternately, you can ask them to delay it until you get the SSN. Remember, if you didn't get it in 2 weeks, you might want to go to the SSA office and ask them about it. They will give you a printout with your SSN if a number has already been allocated to you.

2 Days

Hi,
I got e-mail on 17 and got it in mail on 19 JUNE.I guess u will get it today or tomorrow.
I dont have a job in hand right now, still looking for any open slots for residency(MD) or will aplly for next year, meanwhile can work as medical assistant.

Quoted from the site:::
How do I apply for a Social Security number and card?

In general, only noncitizens who have permission to work from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can apply for a Social Security number. To apply for a Social Security number:

* Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and
* Show us original documents proving your:
o Immigration status;
o Work eligibility;
o Age; and
o Identity.
* Take your completed application and original documents to your local Social Security office.

Have you considered an ITIN?
From the irs site:http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96287,00.html#what

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing
number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. It is a nine-digit number that
always begins with the number 9 and has a 7 or 8 in the fourth digit, example 9XX-7X-XXXX.
IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer
identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain a
Social Security Number (SSN) from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because
both resident and nonresident aliens may have U.S. tax return and payment
responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code.

thanks

Hi little Britain here,

I reckon that is an option 2.

I will hang fire though and apply for a regular ss # when my EAD hits. However I will call SS to make sure my EAD is checkable in their system. If it is you can walk out of there, SAME DAY with one. If not you will wait the regular time. I have only read of one or two people managing to get their ss # straight away but this was using the above method and contacting ss in advance and verify the details.

I hope Juno, is right and I get my EAD soon. It would be perfect to get it sometime next week or earlier. The interested employer is still fine to hang on for me thankfully.... :D

Hope you guys get those precious emails soon.

Rule Britainia (England vs Ecuador) England for the world cup :D USA went out like suckers today  lol. Im sure I will be tearing my brother in law (american) up about that when I see him next.

Help

Hi there

Little Britain here,

I got another 3 emails from USCIS this morning.... I've figured their system is on West coast timing. My uscis website says the same:

The emails said "This case has been approved. On June 23, 2006, an approval notice was mailed. If 30 days have passed and you have not received this notice, you may wish to verify or update your address".

Does this mean my EAD was posted today? Could someone who knows let me know

Thanks guys,

thanks for the reply

Hi

the old message said the case was approved. The card would be ordered and sent in the mail when its done.

Does the approval notice include the EAD???

Any comments would help.

Btw i've had 3 LUD since the 20th. - odd

Thanks

Brit, yes, you should be getting the card in the mail now. The approval notice in this case is the EAD card. It should be in the mail already. I got my card about 2/3 postal business days after this update.
