Can I start my business?

I have employer sponsored G.C and have lost my job recently and would like to know if I can start my business and that step will not affect my Citizenship Application in anyway.

If this job loss was very soon after your GC was approved, you may have to explain in the citizenship interview that it was your employer who got rid of you, not you who quit (and provide the termination letter if asked). How long did you stay in the job after GC approval?

If you have the capital, start your own business and forget about being laid-off. USCIS won't care too much, especially if employer initiated the termination...just bring the necessary documentation to support your case. America is in need of young business people, especially from immigrants. Are you in Arizona by any chance? Consider starting a business there, they can really use a positive image of immigrants as opposed to "tickish" crap on TV.

So, I am good to go with my business plan. I have letter of separation and W2's; I have layoff situation after 2.5 years of continuous permanent job with same company who applied for my G.C. More input will really be appreciated. Thanks to all who replied.

2.5 years after GC approval, or 2.5 years overall? If you mean 2.5 years overall, how long did you work for them after GC approval?
