Can I leave the US straight after interview?

Quick question - I'm in the process of AOS, and I have AP. My GC interview is this coming Friday, October 31.

Before receiving my interview letter, I booked a trip home to Australia leaving November 4. Is there any reason I shouldn't or can't take this trip? Is AP still good after the interview? (or is it possible my GC will be approved that day?)

I know not to leave the US if it looks like the interview went badly, but I can't see any reason for that to happen...

Also, should I mention the trip to my IO on Friday? And if I do go, is it likely the customs officers on the way back in will think it's weird I left so soon after my interview? I'm only going for a week, but I'm travelling without my husband which I know can cause problems sometimes.

Ask the officer if you are approved at the end of your interview (if they don't tell you in so many words). If the IO says you're approved (which means you're in GC status that instant, or at least as soon as the IO finishes up your case), ask him/her to stamp your passport if they weren't making a move to do so, and mention the planned travel at that time.

If your pp gets stamped, you're good to go.

Good luck btw, and please let us know your experience :)

I agree with captainkit since I was in the very situation. It is advise to wait at least two weeks before traveling but in cases of emergency you can't. I got approved on a Thursday and by Saturday I was on a plane to my country. spent a week out and still was not in the system a week later. I had to undergo secondary inspection which took forever and almost missed my connecting flight
