i know this question has been discussed many times on this board, but my situation is unique and i would like to discuss it with experts here: My spouse is Canadian citizen and US GC holder and I am a holder of both countries PR. we now live/work in US. So far I havent had any problem crossing the border b/c I showed PR to Canadian offer and GC to US inspector. But my question is - if it is the case that I must give up one, say, canadian PR, would it be quite unlogic that I have to apply for a traveler's visa to enter canada and/or are not qualified for all the social benefits even though my husband is a citizen there? According to Canada's new immigration law, my residency abroad with a canadian spouse should also be counted as living in canada, under that circumstance, it even makes less sense to me that I would be asked to give up Cdn PR for giving up residency in Canada. Can any one tell me if this argument would work to maintain my status in both countries?
