Hello
We will be filing I-751 next month. I was wondering how much time it takes for processing like in california. Is it ok to be out of country while processing is going on ?. Are there few stages in the process for which you need to be present in US Thanking You

The I-751 receipt notice will include language that extends the conditional status for a year. You MUST be fingerprinted.

If the I-751 is denied while you are away, you may have trouble getting back in and MAY be referred to an Immigration Judge. That is a rare thing and there is the option for an IJ to terminate proceedings and hand the case back to USCIS, OR for USCIS to cancel an NTA and take the case back, or lastly for the IJ to remove conditions (IJ's done want to adjudicate the case in the first instance and prefer to hand it back to USCIS).

That said, not all I-751s require an interview so it could just as easily be granted while away.

Hi Joe
Thanks
So you are saying its usually ok to go after fingerprinting. Or not to go at all till you have conditions removed. And i believe both us should stay here after filing for I-751 and till processing is over
And after you have your conditions removed, then you have to wait like few months till you can apply for Citizenship. I mean 3 yrs from marriage (not from I-751 date
Also in CA how much time whole processing can take

What is the normal processing time for i751 since I would also be filing in Sep last week from NJ. I don't have any plans for going out of country this year.

The national expectation is 6 months. Since you are in NJ, you will mail your I-751 directly to the Vermont Service Center. The Vermont Service Center is usually slower then the California Service Center, but they still are within the 6 months according to the USCIS website. Again, as others have mentioned the receipt notice extends the conditional status for one year, and with the expired GC is good for travel and employment.

Time for fingerprints

I am mailing my 751 on Monday.
I live in Texas so through VSC.

I would like to travel out of the country in October.
Do you think I'll have my fingerprints done within those 5 weeks?
Could try walk-in, but Dallas is not the best place for that.

Don't remember how quickly I got my fp done with initial application.

Glad to know that they'll extend for a year with receipt.
