Can i go for 1099 jobs ?..Joe and others reponse please

I got my 551 stamping last month and just got laid off.
I am getting offer for 1099 contract job. here is my questions:

1) Can I be eligible for 1099 jobs while in 551 stamping ?.
2) What are all the things do i need to consider if I take 1099 jobs ?

While you do not need to incorporate you still need to get a business license with your city. Simple and cheap (around $30-$50/yr).

Things get sligthly more complicated if you want to do business in some name that is even slightly different from yours, you need to file a \'Fictious name\' statement with the county.

The above assumes that you will do some type of consulting that will not increase your mail significantly, nor increase the traffic to your home and other similar restrictions. Some activities are further regulated by the city, county, state, feds and you may need to get more licenses, however I do not think this is of concern for the people posting here.

As the other posters said keep an eye on taxes.
