HMO will not cover the cost

I have talked to my HMO, they said insurance will not pay the cost of physicals, they will only pay if your physician deems it is medically necessary. SO what\'s the reason we should give to physicians, at least if we got MMR, PPD and HIV/syphillis done we can save lots of money , then we can take this Immigration civil surgeon and they told me they will give clerance in a day.

Primary doctor obliges usually

Just go and ask your doctor that you need the tests done and need a copy too for the purpose of immigration. Most of them oblige by prescribing these tests at your approved test center.

Only INS approved doctors

can give the medicals. Even if you do the medicals with your HMO, you will end up paying most of the bucks to the INS approved doctor. However you can do the MMR vaccine with your PCP and maybe save some money.

list of tests/vaccines

1) HIV/Syphilis
2) MMR Vaccine or titer
3) chicken Pox vaccine or titer
4) Tetanus
5) TB Bubble test and if positive chest X-ray

I think one should go to the INS approved doctor

Me and my wife went to the INS approved doctor and the only shot that we had to take was the MMR booster. We did not carry any proof of immunization with us. All together we had to spend about $400 for both of us. This fee included doctor\'s visit, X-Ray and whatever blood test they had to do for us. If you get the necessary immunization shots from the HMO and take the X-Ray and blood test results with you, I am sure that the INS approved doctor will not like that and will find some other way of charging you. In total you will end up paying more and also will run the risk of a RFE later.

INS approved docs only

Instructions on Form I-693 clearly states that the Physical Exam, Blood test, and the TB test has to be done only by INS approved physicians. So why break the rules!! However you can get your immunizations and chest x-ray (if needed) done elsewhere.

Plus there\'s always the issue of getting a RFE if the doc has forgotten to check a box or something and you might have to go back to him/her. It\'s always better to keep the doc happy by getting everything done thru the INS doc.

It went off well for me

I have had a very different experience. I had vaccination records for my kids but none for me and my wife. We requested our PCP to prescribe tests for us and give us a copy. The INS approved doctor gladly accepted the test results. The reports for INS were given in sealed envelope but I was also given a set of copies for my reference and I do not see any thing missing.

Remember No INS surgeon is equipped to do blood tests, they only draw samples and send these to the few commercial labs like Quest etc the same your PCP uses.

No Title

I am waiting for I-140, approval, any advice if I should get my medical done in preperation for I-485 filling, or if there is a temporal limit between medical and I-485 filling

Also if wife is pregnant and shots cannot be given...what implications it has on processing for i-485

Thank you guys , here\'s what I am doing ....

I have asked my PCP to do whatever tests/ immunizations, for me and wife, that are covered by the HMO. I also called HMO to confirm what they cover (they cover everything but HIV test, which is only covered if PCP feels this is a Medical necessity). I will take these reports to INS doctor and he can do whatever is left.

Can\'t an INS approved doctor be covered by HMO??

INS doesnt care who pays for the tests. If you can find an INS approved doctor that is covered in your plan(or if your plan covers out of network doctors), go for it!!
