I am a DV 2009 winner. My DV visa was issued on June 1st and will be expired by the end of Nov. I have so many things to do before my leaving. The most suitable date I can go to the U.S is the day before my visa expired.

Could anyone please tell me if there is any troublem and any consequent problem to go the very late date before expired like this?

If you can afford it, go to the US immediately to activate your green card, and then go back home to finish preparations once you have collected your green card (i think it takes about 2 weeks to get the card...im not too sure)

It doesn't make sense to wait till a day to the visa expiry to leave. What if your flight gets delayed or canceled?

It's very risky waiting that long, I agree with freedom just go and activated your green card and then go back to your home country finish your business

I dont know why you should contemplate such unnecessary risk at all.

To me it sounds that although you won, you aren't very eager to live in the USA. Maybe I'm wrong...if so why would yu even go if you aren't planning on maintaining the rules for the GC. You can apply to get an extended stay abroad, but if officials look in the comp. upon entering and notice you only have been in the USA for days, every time you enter, they might cancel your GC since a GC is a perminent resident card and not a card to stay out and enter just to bring a few day visit.

Officially you can enter a day before but you are taking a risk as previous poster have stated.

You were damn lucky to get the DV millions of people are praying and fasting to get, why then do you wanna jeopardize the opportunity.

Note that for you to have been granted the DV precluded the embassy from given another winner who is much more serious about it.

All contributors gave you d best and candid advice. However, if you think and very convinced that traveling to the U.S for d sake of green card will greatly disturb you from making it in your home country, you can forego the green card but think of others if you have dependant relatives especially your children.

Thanks for your comment everyone. The reason I wrote this topic was to simulate the worst case scenaro to entry the very late date. In reality, I really not even think to take any such risk just any one bit (You may look at my signature to see how hard I tried 3 times at the interview to get the visa.). Indeed, I have some business and many personal errands to take care and I though I could go like 15 days before it expires. That was the reason I asked and add more intensive situation just in case. Sorry for the confusion I made for that. Now, I just changed my activation trip to be 1 month prior expired instead to reduce the risk as possible. I am so glad that I can get the visa and never even think to let this rare opportunity go away. Thanks again.

I entered on Aug 6th in US and back in Sept 4. I had only 6 days to expire my visa too. After all we all are lucky to get selected in first place. You will be ok after all you are also situation as I was (second priority) as I guess...
