Can I apply for H-1B visa after I485 is submitted?

I just learned that I'll be able to submit I485 next month (that's also why I'm not familiar with the I485 issues). That's good news but I'm planning to travel abroad next month.

Do I have to apply for AP and wait until it's approved?

Can I come back by going to the consulate and applying for a H-1B visa. (the current visa stamp on my passport is going to expire before I come back, but my status is valid until next summer)

Do I have other options?

Your advice is highly appreciated.

My attorney suggests H-1 visa. I just want to make sure I'm not misled.

Thanks,
